Feng Shui for Your Health

In feng shui, the center of your home is associated with your health. The elements you will want to add to the center of your home to enhance this area are earth and fire. In addition to adding these elements, you will want to make sure that there is no clutter in this area, the area is clean and neatly organized and if there is any plumbing here, you will want to make sure that everything is working properly with no leaks, etc. I've created an inspiration board showing the different types of items you can use in the center of your home to enhance your health. The items on this board include:
  • Brick and tile flooring & backsplashes
  • Pebbles
  • Granite or stone countertops
  • Any type of lighting or lamps
  • Sand-filled jars with candles
  • Lanterns
  • Coral
  • Hourglass
  • Candles (I love flameless candles because they are always safe)

DIY All Natural Air Freshener with Amazing Healing Properties

I recently found a great recipe for an all natural home deodorizer. I think it is so important to use all natural ingredients as air fresheners, because we are breathing this stuff in. When we breathe in most store-bought deodorizers, we are breathing in chemicals that are not good for our health. In feng shui, the center of your home is associated with your health. Your health is the center of everything. It is hard to enjoy other areas of your life when you are not in good health. With that being said, I have chosen to feature an all natural way to freshen up your home. In addition to smelling great, there are also major health benefits of diffusing these ingredients, which I will list below. I originally found a similar recipe at One More Moore's blog. She had worked at Williams Sonoma and says they would use this recipe to make the store smell heavenly. I have tweaked the recipe a little, but you will get the same scent with added healing properties.

The ingredients you will need are:

***Add more of any of the last three ingredients for a stronger scent***

Let the above ingredients simmer throughout the day and add water as needed.

While you are simmering this mix, not only will your house be smelling great, but you will also be reaping the health benefits of diffusing these ingredients into the air. Here are the healing properties of the following essential oils:

doTERRA Lemon Essential Oil:
  • Promotes health & healing (antiviral properties)
  • Provides physical energy
  • Purifies the air
  • Antidepressant
  • Refreshing
  • Eliminates anxiety

 doTERRA Rosemary Essential Oil:
  • Stimulates memory
  • Promotes health & healing (antibacterial properties)
  • Antioxidant
  • Detoxifying

Simmer, simmer, simmer, breathe in the heavenly aroma and enjoy the healing properties of this wonderful air freshener!

Feng Shui & DIY Lighting Projects

In feng shui, the fire element should be placed in the south, southwest, northeast and center of your home (or garden) to enhance your reputation, relationships, knowledge and health. Lighting is the perfect example of a fire element. Here are some really cool DIY projects that will help you bring this fire element into your home or garden. As always, be careful not to create any fire hazards (my dad is a retired fireman so I almost feel obligated to add that disclaimer :))!

What is washi tape anyway?! Washi tape is easily described as a decorative tape that originated in Japan. There are so many fun designs and endless uses for this fun product! You're probably wondering what washi tape has to do with feng shui. Well, the answer is simple... nothing at all, but it does have everything to do with decorating! There are so many projects you can make using this amazing tape. Here are some of my favorites!

Feng Shui for Relationships

The southwest area of our home, garden or yard corresponds with the relationship area in feng shui. Here are a few tips on how to enhance this area of your home to support or improve your relationships. The key elements to use here are earth and fire. Examples of earth elements can include stone, dirt, tile, marble, granite, cement, brick, statues, pebbles, a stone pathway and pottery. Examples of fire elements can include a fireplace, barbeque, appliances, lights, candles, solar lights and tiki torches. Using any of these elements here will help boost your relationships. These also work well for those who are seeking a relationship. Lastly, whenever possible in this area, try to place items in pairs. Here are some great examples showing objects in pairs.

Pairs of lamps

Pairs of art, pair of chairs & a pair of overhead pendant lights

Pair of mirrors in an entryway

Pair of topiaries

Pair of ceramic pots

Pair of lovebirds :)

More lovebirds!
